Submit to teen ink- Wings I Was Never Meant to Have (dedicated to mom)

They tell me to fly, to reach for the stars,
But I have no wings, no way to go far.
They place their dreams on my fragile chest,
Expecting me to soar, to be my best.

I can run through storms, through rain and cold,
But I can’t fly, no matter how bold.
The weight of their hopes is too much to bear,
But still, they don’t see the burden I wear.

How can I be something I was never meant to be?
How can I rise when I can’t even see?
They want me to reach, but I’m stuck on the ground,
Tethered to dreams that can’t be unbound.

I wasn’t made to stretch to the sky,
I wasn’t born with wings to fly.
So what do I do when they ask me to soar?
How do I carry what I wasn’t meant for?
